Resume Writing Rules Free

The days of the traditional CV are dead. Today, the first touchpoint for your CV is likely to be onlinesoftware that searches your CV for relevant keywords that recruiters type in. So choose your words carefully, be relevant and succinct.
Rather than get bogged down by what you should include, here’s our top five of what you should leave out:
 1.       The words ‘CV’, ‘Résumé’ or ‘Curriculum Vitae’
Your potential employer will know it’s a CV. There’s no need to state the obvious. Rather, start with your name at the top, your phone number and email address, which should be professional – no wastedwayne69@hotmail.com! Also include your LinkedIn profile if appropriate. When it comes to your CV, every inch of paper is precious.
2.       Photos, illustrations, videos, fancy fonts, colours and layouts
Anything that you think might be distracting usually is. And unless you are a videographer, video CVs are a novelty. Besides, your appearance has no bearing on how suitable you are for the job.
3.       Personal details like age, DOB, address, nationality, marital status and children
So many people make the mistake of including their age and address on their CV, but this is sensitive information subject to various data protection and age discrimination legislation. You can always provide these details at a later stage.
4.       Waffle, spelling and grammar mistakes and “I did this”
Long winding personal statements or superfluous words and adjectives turn people off. They don’t mean anything or add any value. All your employer is looking for is something that makes sense, backed up by logical, chronological proof. If you’re looking for graduate jobs, then don’t be afraid to use your degree experiences to reflect your work ethic and performance as you would with previous job experience. Don’t just say you did something, explain how you did it and what the results were. Stick to snappy bullet points though rather than wordy narrative in chunky paragraphs to make it easier for a hiring manager to scan.
5.        Ten years or more…
You did an internship at a local radio station after you graduated? That’s great. But how exactly does that experience relate to the financial services job you’re applying for? CVs aren’t life stories; rather, they’re a condensed overview of your current, relevant career history.

10. Mopeds for Hire

At 19, Peter was attending the University of Virginia as a freshman. In a class on entrepreneurship, he had to develop a business on paper. What he came up with was a moped rental business for U.S. vacation spots. The Professor, impressed with his work, urged him to start the business during the coming summer. Peter decided to set up at a favorite vacation spot of his family’s in Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. Ager grossing $50,000 in four months, peter decided not to return to college.

After renting a small dirt corner lot in Nantucket, Peter set up a card table, bought a cash box, and invested $5,000 in buying 15 mopeds. The first two weeks he was so busy, he borrowed $10,000 from his father so he could buy 25 more mopeds.

At the end of the tourist season in Nantucket, he packed up and moved to Sanibel Island, Florida. This has since become his headquarters for his Fun Rentals Company.

His company has now grown to over 500 mopeds, 40 employees, and 11 other sites. He has also started selling franchises for around $35,000. With his business grossing more than $1 million a year, Peter has set a lofty goal of having 100 franchises and 100 pieces of the most valuable property in the country’s resort areas.

For Peter it was a matter of taking classroom theory and applying it in the field. This, the initiative to test a theory or an idea, is an important ingredient any young business person can have. Gather your knowledge, weigh the costs, then take the risk.

9. The Peruvian Connection

Annie developed a love for Peru when as a Yale sophomore she volunteered for an archaeological dig on the Peruvian coast. During her graduate studies she returned to Peru to do research on “market women”—women who sell goods in marketplaces of remote Andean villages. On her return trip to Tonganoxie, Kansas, her hometown, she brought her mother a Peruvian sweater: made from the soft and silky lightweight wool of the alpaca, a llama-like animal native to the Andes and known to have been the royal of the Incas.

It wasn't long before her mother’s friends were telling her that she ought to import the sweaters. When her mother obtained their first order from Hall’s, a Kansas City, Missouri, department store, the mother-daughter team went into business.

In the beginning, business at the Peruvian Connection Ltd. Was slow. Annie would spend her time after school visiting boutiques around the country to sell the alpaca fashions. The main problem was that she disliked wholesaling. A Break came for Annie and her mother when the New York Times interviewed Annie at a New York fashion trade show where she was able to get a space. The article brought in about 3000 queries regarding the sweaters. Annie and her mother turned these queries into a mailing list.

With a $50,000 Small Business Administration guaranteed loan, they put out a color catalog in 1980. Their sales figures now are several hundred thousand dollars a year. Annie’s mother handles the bookkeeping and Annie spends a lot of her time correlating with a New York designer to come up with original patterns for the sweaters as well as hats, ponchos, scarves, capes, and skirts. She also does a lot more travelling to Peru to work with her suppliers.

Annie, though she has had to postpone her doctorate work, doesn't mind the commitment. It i a commitment though. According to Annie, “You have to invest everything that you have-emotionally, physically, financially, and intellectually. To be able to do that and feel rewarded for it, you’d better pick something that you really love.”

The lesson here is to count the cost of starting your own business. How much time will it require? Is it worth my total investment of time, money, and energy?

8. The Handyman Can

After graduating from college, Andre went to work for the government designing workflow systems and putting the right people in the right jobs. It wasn't long though before he realized that at $14,000 a year he wasn't going anywhere in life. What did he do? The same thing most successful entrepreneurs do – went into business for himself.

Leaving the security of his government position, Andre established his own employment agency. It was here that he discovered a need for temporary employment in his community. Though most employment agencies worked under the assumption that their duty was to find permanent employment for clientele, Andre decided to form Handyman Network, where he markets temporary labor, Skills of his people rang from plumbing to fetching a cat from under a house.

His first step was setting up a system to identify the skills of temporary workers. This he accomplished through tests, interviews, and work histories. Next he advertised his Handyman’s worker skills through newspaper, radio, and direct mail advertising in Charleston, S.C. where he lives. Then the calls started coming in.

The interesting point of this work is that the temporary workers like moving from job to job, although in many instances their temporary work leads into full-time employment.
Businesses also like temporary help since they don’t have the same payroll requirements as regular employees.

Andre’s network has supplied temporary workers, for more than 4000 clients and had sales in 1984 of $9000, 000. What Andre really enjoys, apart from being independent, is the contribution he is makings in his community. People need temporary help, and Handyman Network fills that need.
For Andre it was a matter of determining a need in his community and then providing a service to feel that need. What are the needs of your community? Can You Service one or more of them?

5. Designing Stuffed Animals and Much More.

For Joanne Babysitting has turned into a profitable adventure. Coming from a large family of eight children, she spent a great deal of her time babysitting to earn extra money. To entertain the children she would bring along stuffed animals that she had created as a hobby.

The husband of one of the families for whom she baby-sat, a marketing executive, suggested to Joanne that she capitalize on her hobby by marketing her idea. Joanne did just that. Under the name of “Fur fun” she advertised her animal patterns in craft magazines and generated a mail order business for the pattern and fabric necessary to make the stuffed toys. By the time she was fourteen Joanne also began to design clothes for herself and friends.

Joanne’s creativity led to a $2,500 a month designing business, which has blossomed, into a designer boutique in an exclusive downtown shopping district in Evans ton  Illinois , Her Projected Sales for the first year are $60,000 to $110,000.

What makes Joanne unique is her creativity. At a pre-opening show, she revealed a completely new approach to wedding attire: a flower girl entered in traditional white, followed by a bridesmaid in pale pink; as each succeeding bridesmaid entered, the shade of pink grew more intense until the bride finally appeared in a breathtaking fuchsia gown. “White is so dull,” moans Joanne, “I feel that the entrance of the bride should build like a crescendo. She should steal the show.”

All it took to get started was a little encouragement from a friend and an initial mailing of her patterns to several craft magazines. With the money from his business venture and her knack for designing her boutique was only one dream away.

income opportunities

Question: How can commercial banks generate new income opportunities, especially during this global financial crisis?

Answer: As a result of the global economic crisis, financial institutions are under more pressure than ever to find successful new strategies to acquire more customers and keep existing ones. Innovation and product development are vital methods for commercial banks to respond to customer expectations and generate greater value from existing customers.

We have seen significant developments through Web technologies, delivery channels, and mobile communications. These innovations present an opportunity to generate new product alternatives and bundles for banks. Deposits, loans, money orders, and other products supported by these new technologies have great potential, but are still nascent. New killer financial products other than credit cards and derivatives need be introduced so banks are ready when the markets upturn. Customer centricty can be reached by integrating different sectors and products.

For companies interested in advancing their banking product and innovation strategies, the most logical opportunities exist with new types of cards, loyalty programs, and mobile applications. Here's how to bring those concepts into practice.

Next-generation cards and loyalty programs

Debit and credit cards have a multitude of product features and various market applications. Market readiness and regulation needs frequently lag behind innovative product features. The most popular features right now include payment installments, cash back, gift-based programs on the consumption percentage, no fees, airline miles, etc. These are fine, but more opportunities exist.

One is to create a back-end infrastructure that makes it easy to use credit or debit cards in conjunction with other systems. What if customers could use their bank card as a lottery ticket? The 16 digits on the card and PIN code provide security and almost endless combinations of ticket numbers for every lottery drawing. The program would also help reduce paper and costs by eliminating paper lottery tickets cards. And when a customer wins, the money can be automatically placed into the user's account. The same logic could be applied to use credit cards as airline, concert, or cinema tickets.

In addition, banks can also integrate into other payment processes like highway tolls and fuel charges at gas stations directly, instead of using a third-party processors like EZ Pass and PayPass. Yes, the technology exists today to make purchases in some countries, but the true innovation lies in the back-end integration.

Integrating the back-office systems of banks and cards with third parties such as the lottery or airlines and creating applications aligned with the both sides' needs will enable customers to have one plastic card in their pocket with exceptional use and flexibility. On the business side, the economies of scale created by integrating cross-sector products and services would help banks and related companies reduce their operational costs and generate more revenue. Such innovative offers would also undoubtedly improve customer satisfaction and customer experience.

Issuing prepaid credit or debit cards is another area that hasn't been used to its fullest potential. For example, gas and fuel cards can be hedged against oil prices; customers could choose post- or prepaid payment options to avoid price changes for a specific time period. Such innovations would help both customers and the service companies manage their liquidity. In addition, these prepaid cards would be sold through various intermediaries, such as post offices, gas stations, and banks. Integrated prepaid storage through mobile phones would also be a tremendous advantage.

In the long run card programs based on the customer experience and back-end efficiencies will create a new value chain that includes new sectors and companies. Card usage and consumption will increase, and customers will have the flexibility to earn bonuses that can be spent in participating loyalty scheme value chain locations.

Mobile phones as purchase points:

Perhaps the greatest gain for both financial services innovation and product development may lie with using mobile phones as payment instruments. The technology is ready with programs like Near Field Communication (NFC) or Radio Frequency Identifcation (RFID), but the standards are not fully set. However, we will see mobile operators in the near future acting as payment clearing houses or hubs, with a significant portion of their revenues being generated through financial services.

I envision it working similar to Mastercard's PayPass technology, where customers would receive a monthly bill from the servicing operator of all credit expenses. In such a scenario the operators and banks would reconcile transactions and provide seamless joint service.

These innovations essentially help financial institutions get back to the basics of the banking: buiding customer trust, managing risk and churn, and encouraging retention and loyalty. Adam Smith's free-market rules and John Maynard Keynes' government expenditures were questioned during the crisis, but it is certain that the new economic world will be about more than bail-out packages. As new market rules are set, bank executives need to be more creative and respond to customer expectations and needs swiftly.

3. Specialty Advertising

John, a Cleveland native, began selling at the early age of eight, samples of pens, coffee mugs, and T-shirts left over from his uncle’s specialty advertising business located in Toledo. His early customers included his relatives, local friends and neighbors  By the time he was 12 he was corresponding with Cleveland business executives, introducing them to the benefits of specialty advertising. It was during this time that John learned the value of developing good clientele – a network of people that he could provide a service for in the future.

The biggest key to John’s success was and is his initiative. Departing from the path of most 16 year old  he decided it was time to set out on his own and form his own specialty advertising business. With a little bit of advice from his uncle and 8 years of tutoring under his belt he created his own company. John explains his decision this way. “Generally people are like frogs on a lily- pad. If one decides to jump off, how many are left? The answer isn't  two but three, because the frog only decided to jump off, he still hasn't entered the water.”

John’s unique approach in marketing a wide variety of premiums, awards, executive gifts and other specialty products is in providing a total service for the customer. He feels that his customers don’t just buy items, they buy a “total service,” including packaging, shipping, and consulting.

Currently he has eight employees and will gross approximately $500,000 in sales this year. This is quite a step from being an eight-year old peddling his uncle’s left over specialty items to being a self-made entrepreneur.

2.ZZZZ Best Carpets.

Barry, at age 15, started his own carpet-cleaning firm ZZZZ Best Company in his parents garage in Resenda, California.Today at 19, his company will boast sales of $2 million. Barry got his start as a child going to work with his mother who managed a carpet cleaning business. It was here that he began to formulate in his mind a more efficient and successful carpet cleaning business.

With no financial backing from his parents, barry managed to save enough money to purchase his first carpet-cleaning machine.Since that time, his office has moved from the family garage to San Diego, Anaheim and Thousand Oaks. Aside from the fact that he had to finance his first machine, Barry also faced problems form some of his teachers at School. “ Some teachers seemed resentful of me,” he recalls. “They thought I was trying to beat the system to demonstrate that you didn't need an education to be successful. But I totally believe in school. I think it’s the greatest thing.”

Currently his company has grown to 103 employees including his father and mother. His goals include franchising and becoming the General Motors of the carpet cleaning Industry. Perhaps the only drawback to his job is the hours> Barry begins work each day at 7 a.m. and stays until 8 p.m. It isn't hard to see that he earns his $2 million by putting in a 6 hour work week.

Ways to Start Earning Extra Money

Start earning extra money through work at home opportunities, side businesses, and fun part time jobs

U.S. Paper MoneyEarning money in 2012 is going to be a little different from 2011, as people shift their buying habits towards even more electronics, and the real estate market revs to make a (very slight) improvement from the previous year. What does this mean for you? People are going to be spending a little bit more if the economy continues to recover ever-so-slowly, with probably an emphasis on internet, searching for new homes, replacing old technology, replacing old household items, and just a little bit more spending cash they can use for non-essentials. That's good news for anyone looking to make extra money! Here are some ideas updated for 2012 that you can use to increase your income, starting today:

1. Join a direct sales company. These companies are perfect for Moms who would like to work from home, and are largely commission based. Many work on the premise of the home party method.

2. Deliver newspapers. You don't have to ride around on your bike, some papers have truck drivers that deliver newspapers, or you can use your own car. Choose a route nearest to you and you might not have to drive too far.

3. Become a photographer. If you're already handy with a camera, why not use your skill to make you some extra money on the side? People are always in the need of family photos, wedding photos, and baby photos. Here's a guide to
get started with photography if you're just starting out.

4. Start blogging about what you know. There's a place for every area of expertise in the world of blogging. If you're an expert at something, no matter how obscure or trivial, people want to know about it. Advertisements, recommended products, and maybe even your own product can fund your blogging and bring in a profit.

5.
Learn to sell on Ebay. Not everyone is internet savvy. You can make some excellent side income by selling other people's stuff for them, while you earn a commission. If you'd rather sell your own stuff, you can always find things to sell on Ebay here.

6. Cook extra during the holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, family events and birthdays are all events people need food for, but might be strapped on time to make it.
Starting your own home based bakery business on the side can yield some great profits!

7. Become an affiliate marketer. Affiliate marketers can earn a commission by advertising for companies on the internet, big and small. It all depends on how creative you are with your content and marketing techniques. If you're a good writer, this might be a good job for you.

8. Learn calligraphy and sell your services. It's still a popular choice to have wedding invitations hand written with beautiful calligraphy. Advertise on the internet and you could get some clients from all over.

9. Take advantage of your artistic talents. Machines will never be able to replace artwork. Market yourself as a portrait painter, photo touch up artist, sculptor (sculpt their pets!), mural artist, or landscape painter. The possibilities are endless. To advertise your work, to get started networking and marketing.

10.
Join a focus group. Focus groups are simple and fun ways to provide valuable feedback about products that you use or have sampled to companies. They are often short, but pay well for the short amount of time.

11. Clean other people's homes. With a few household cleaners and a lot of elbow grease, you can make a great side income (or full time income if you have a big client base) with your cleaning business. You can even start a green cleaning business using eco friendly cleaning products.

12. Become a business consultant. Like blogging, people are always looking for your expertise with consulting. Offering consultations to improve their business, making their business up to certain code, or to making it more attractive to customers can boost their visibility and spread the word about their business.

With this new wave of businesses looking for ways to increase their presence on the web comes a need for search engine marketers and SEO experts. Build pages for them, build websites, critique their websites, or offer a whole consultation plan.

21. Translate what you've learned at your full time job into a part time job, too. If you've learned a skill at your current job and you've been doing it for a while, then it's probably safe to say one of your biggest skills that's worth the most is your profession. Get a similar part time job doing the same thing, or something similar. Accountants, prepare taxes on the side. Advertisers, create advertisements for local businesses, and
